Jr. NBA Affiliated Youth League

This Fall Lion League and the Jr. NBA is excited to get back on the court with our Fall programs.  Lion League Jr. NBA Middle School Leagues will divide players into competitive teams, and each team will play a game schedule and will participate in Skill/Team-Building Clinics on Saturday Mornings.

Pee Wee Division (Boys and Girls Grades K-2) Sunday Mornings at McCarthy (9:45AM-11:00AM) :  All Players will meet on Sunday Mornings(7 Total Sessions).  Each week the players will participate in a 45 Minute Clinic (Skills Session) followed by a 30 Minute Game Session.   This session will help players get introduced to the game of basketball which they can all learn at their own pace.  This program is entering its 17th season as the premier introductory basketball program in the area, and is led by Coach Mike Allen.  Coach Allen has received rave reviews from parents and players alike for not only his ability to teach and knowledge of the game, but in his command of the young players and his exceptional patience and enthusiasm.  Players will learn, play and have FUN in our Pee Wee Program!

Boys Rookie Division (Boys Grades 3 and 4 Sunday Mornings at McCarthy 8:00-9:30AM):  All players will meet on Sunday Mornings for a  Clinic Session followed by a Game Session (7 Total Sessions). .  Players will continue to sharpen their skills through drill work, and will receive top-notch instruction.  Coach Mike Allen directs this program and each year this program gives our young players a great head-start heading into their town or travel basketball season.  Players will leave this program with improved skills and knowledge of the game.  This program is great for beginners and also for players with experience as Coach Allen will group players by ability level and that everyone learns at their own speed.

MIDDLE SCHOOL JR. NBA PROGRAMS:  Boys Grades 5-8(Saturday Mornings 8-930AM at CHS/ Games: Select Monday and Wednesday Nights at CHS)

Our Jr. NBA Programs  are  among the most affordable for Off-Season Private Programs.  Lion League has always tried to give its' participants a great program at an affordable cost.  We want all players to be able to play and receive top level instruction, and this season we have made some tweaks to be able to lower the cost.  Lion League is a great program for players playing other sports, but still want to keep their basketball skills sharp.  Lion League is also a great companion program to players playing AAU Programs as it provides top-notch coaching, and competitive games and drill sessions to provide players more opportunity to learn and grow their knowledge and appreciation for the game of basketball.

These programs are ideal for players who want to get better in the off-season, by having clinic sessions as well as a Game Schedule.

All players will receive coaching and drill-work designed to help them improve their games in the off-season.  Here is a list of what's offered in our Jr. NBA Programs:

  • All players will participate in Skills Sessions designed to improve individual skill, but to be also taught the core aspects of team play(Team Defense, Positioning, Offensive Spacing), and to participate in simulated game-like situations.
  • All players will be assigned a team and will be coached by a Lion League Staff Member.  All Lion League Coaches must participate in our Lion League Coaches Camp before the season.  If anyone is looking to join the coaching staff please email Coach Van Gelder at:  llbhoopsllc@gmail.com
  • Players will participate in League Games (16 minute games, 2 each night with one 16 minute practice/skill session
  • Players will all receive a League Schedule and games will take place at Chelmsford High School, McCarthy Middle School or Parker Middle School.  The majority of the program will take place at Chelmsford High School.
  • Players will receive a League Shirt

Lion League Basketball started in the spring of 2006 and through the years we have grown to become one of the top off-season instructional programs.  Lion League is designed to conflict minimally with other sports so that players can keep a ball in their hands, and continue to improve their basketball skills while playing other sports.

Lion League has been the starting point for some of the top Coaches and Players in the Merrimack Valley and we are lucky each season to have former players come back and work with our Lion League Programs.  This season we are excited to partner with the Jr. NBA to start a new chapter in our Lion League Programs.  We want all players who are looking for more basketball options to participate and learn in a safe, fun, but competitive environment.

We look forward to seeing everyone this Fall!
